Choose Your Path and Your Pace:
HARE #1 – One Course & 2013 Business Plan Competition – Do you have some knowledge of business, accounting and marketing already? Working full-time? Then, take the one required course in the Fall 2012 and end up with a draft of a business plan. Move through the Business Plan Competition in Spring 2013 with the guidance of business mentors and five additional training sessions to help you develop a plan for funding. By May 2013, you could be ready to take your plan to a funder and you might win prize money too!
HARE #2 – Three-Course Business Plan Certificate and the 2013 Competition -Take two courses, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development and Small Business Management in the Fall 2012 and either accounting or marketing in the Spring while competing in the Business 2013 Business Plan Competition…Designed for those needing more than one course, but not the full eight course one-year certificate.
HARE to the MAX #1 – One Course in One Month (Dec-Jan) and the 2013 Competition – We call it the Katy Winter Mini Entrepreneur Boot Camp! The same class in 12 sessions Mon-Thurs from Dec 19-January 6. Feeds you right into the Business Plan Competition that starts January 22, 2013. Check in the fall for enrollment details.
HARE to the MAX #2 – For Existing Business Owners Only! – One Course AND the 2013 Competition in the Spring. Can you handle it? Want to enter the BPC and you can’t take the course in the Fall or the Katy Winter Boot Camp? Here’s one more possibility – for existing small business owners only. Sign up for the Spring class. When you fill out the on-line BPC application, be sure to provide an HCC Student Number for the team member who will be taking the class. In the application, apply for an exception to the rule that the class be completed prior to the BPC. Share your experience (prior accounting, marketing, finance or business classes, prior experience working in a small business). The BPC staff will assess each application for approval to enter the competition.
Tortoise Approach! Traditional and Steady Wins the Race too!
Plan for the 2014 Business Plan Competition
TORTOISE #1 – Earn the Three-Course Business Plan Certificate taking one course per Semester and compete in the 2014 Business Plan Competition (BPC) – This track builds a strong foundation for the BPC. Take three-courses in sequence: Intro to Entrepreneurship in the Spring 2013, an accounting or marketing course in the Summer 2013, and the Small Business Management-An Entrepreneurial Approach course next Fall 2013. Completing these courses earns you a Business Plan Certificate and prepares you for the 2014 Business Plan Competition. This option is solid and steady, ideal if you’re working full time, raising a family and/or taking other courses. It doesn’t feel slow and you’ll make good progress.
TORTOISE #2 – Earn the Eight-Course Certificate of Entrepreneurship over the next year or year-and-a-half and compete in the Spring 2014 Business Plan Competition. This option is solid and steady, for those needing more experience and business courses before starting your business.
